We have very little canopy trees in Parkdale to offset climate, is there another way of retaining the tree and the benefits, while still allowing for change? We need to value the mature trees we have in the midst of planning and built environment.

I went along today to observe this tree and the property it is on. The garden has several attractive trees that provide shade and a pleasant look to the property. This Queensland Brush Box is a hardy large native rainforest tree with a dense evergreen canopy that provides a very shady area in the garden. Although not native to this area, their benefits outweigh this concern. These trees are valuable - their flowers attract urban wildlife such as bees, nectar eating birds, butterflies and other insects. Any flower that encourages & supports bees is a necessity these days with the bee decline & we really should plant (and retain) with them in mind. They are lush beautiful trees that add incredible beauty to the streetscape. These trees should be classified as 'significant' in my opinion. We have over the past few years, starting in 2019, had a near complete destruction of all of the valuable, significant old habitat trees along Como Pde East and West for the contruction of skyrail. And it keeps going on with other property developments in the area, creating an unpleasant 'heat island effect'. I don't know why this tree is being removed, but I don't agree with it.
