I strongly oppose this proposal.

This business has barely opened its doors and is already attempting to appropriate a residential street for private commercial use. Residents are now expected to lose parking, access, and basic amenity so a restaurant can expand its seating under the guise of “alfresco dining.” This is unacceptable.

Before seeking to close public streets, the operators should first demonstrate they can responsibly manage the premises they already occupy. Current rubbish handling is clearly inadequate and has already resulted in increased vermin activity, including rats. Rewarding poor waste management with additional public space sends entirely the wrong message.

The suggestion to convert a residential street to “No Stopping” shows a complete disregard for the people who live here — particularly elderly residents who rely on accessible parking, community transport, carers, deliveries, and emergency vehicle access. These are not minor inconveniences; they are essential services that support residents’ safety and independence.

A residential street exists for residents, not as an overflow dining area for a commercial business. Public space should not be handed over to a newly opened venue at the direct expense of the surrounding community.

Council’s responsibility is to protect residential amenity, public health, and accessibility — not to prioritise private profit over residents’ basic rights. This proposal should be rejected.
