In checking the satellite view it is clear that trees at the rear of this property make a significant contribution to a linear habitat area that follows the rear boundary of at least 4 to 6 properties, with a gap already existing.
Mature canopy trees are of great value to the community for heat mitigation, wildlife habitat and wind abatement as well as many other benefits.
Croydon Conservation Society is opposed to the removal of canopy trees across Maroondah, as we struggle to maintain a minimum of 30 % shade across the municipality, which is requited to provide good livability.
We object to the removal of seven trees believing this is excessive to the need for three new dwellings, it is just easier for the developer to clean slate the block. As it takes time to regrow trees to maturity, it is better practice to keep those existing in the face of climate change.
