I strongly support this development. Sydney’s in the middle of a housing crisis, and we need to increase density in well-connected areas like Summer Hill to help solve it.

18 McGill Street is perfectly located near existing transport, including the Old Canterbury Road buses, the light rail, and Lewisham station. This eight-storey project makes efficient use of land near high-frequency services to provide much-needed housing. I urge the Inner West Council to approve this application.

I strongly oppose this development. Enough already! Summer Hill doesn’t need another oversized, ugly high rise further destroying the once quaint and charming inner west suburb. The proposed shop/s beneath will be devoid of patrons just like the ones already in the nearby vicinity. Council should reject this and turn the space into a much needed car parking area and green space. It’s quite the challenge for local residents to find on street parking as a result of increased density.

I strongly support this development. There needs to be more foot traffic in this precinct to help the local businesses and there’s a clear unmet demand for more affordable options like co-living can provide.

Aside from this site, Summer Hill is basically tapped out for development capacity, so rejecting this would be an extremely retrograde step in a suburb that’s becoming increasingly unaffordable due to undersupply.

Fantastic. What a high amenity part of the world. The more people that can share in such a great place the better. Building midrise makes current owners better off with higher land values and attracts new ratepayers to the area. Plus more people can share in such a great place to live. Could not support more

I’m very supportive of this proposal. With Sydney facing a serious housing shortage, it’s essential that we create more homes in well-located areas that already have strong transport links and services. Developments like this help more people live close to where they work, shop, and socialise, which strengthens local communities.

The site at 18 McGill Street is ideally positioned near buses on Old Canterbury Road, the light rail, and Lewisham Station. An eight-storey building here makes good use of land in an area that can comfortably support additional residents. More people living locally will also mean more activity for nearby shops, cafes, and businesses, contributing to a more vibrant and lively Summer Hill.

For these reasons, I encourage Inner West Council to approve this application.

As an inner westie, I support this application, just as I generally support proposals to build more housing here. People want to live in this excellent part of the world, but are being forced out by scarcity. This site is well-located right next to the light rail and 500 metres from Lewisham station.

I hope more consideration can be given to protecting trees — if I read it correctly, the arborist's report identified 10 "prescribed" trees which are to be "removed" anyway. Is it possible to transplant healthy native trees more often to allow for development to coexist with trees?
