I am strongly against this proposal. Preserving a heritage building while introducing constant commercial use, underground excavation, and daily traffic incompatible with a reasonably quiet residential street, destroys the very context that gives this heritage meaning. Daniel Street and surrounding areas (particularly The Avenue) form a cohesive heritage precinct of family residences. A commercial daycare center represents an incompatible land use that will generate daily traffic and parking pressure during peak drop-off and pick-up times (starting as early as 7am and finishing as late as 6pm), introduce noise and activity levels that are at odds with residential amenity, and will require underground excavation that risks structural damage to neighbouring heritage properties. This will also establish a precedent for further commercial encroachment in a residential area and undermine the established character that warrants heritage listing in the first place.
