I strongly support this proposal, it looks good, and we need a lot more childcare centres in the Illawarra. The variation requested seems modest, and is worth approving to address our shortages - some of the worst in the country.

I support this DA due to the dire shortage of child care in our region and a sensible location for the facility.
While there’s a clear need for more childcares. What about the safety implications of this location. Being near a main road and a gas station raises significant concerns and safety for the children.
As per Wollongong Council rules when developing centres on 7.2.2 Development Controls it says “Centres will not be supported on a site within 90m straight line distance from a designated road given relatively high traffic.” And “any new centre will not be permitted within 500m from a service station.”
More childcare centres are certainly necessary, however the safety concerns around this location are an issue. This is one of the busiest streets in the area and not a suitable location for such a development
