While I support the need for accessible and inclusive housing, I have several concerns about this specific project that I believe warrant discussion.
1. Traffic and parking:
The various disability housing in our surrounding streets has bought with them significant increase to cars parked on the street, making it difficult to safely drive past. Our street is already quite busy, and additional vehicles could exacerbate this issue.
2. Property Values:
There is a concern that property values in the street will be negatively impacted. This is not a reflection of the residents of the proposed housing but rather the potential pigeon holed development that is proposed.
3. Safety
While we do not believe the block it self floods, the bikeway situated next to the block does. The footpath from the Wattle St side of the block that leads to the bike path area is very steep and not conducive to safe wheel chair access.
While two disability houses seems better than a unit block or townhouses, Iām concerned that this is not the right project for the block.
I believe it is important for us to have a thorough discussion about these potential impacts. I am not opposed to disability housing in principle but feel that this particular location may not be the most suitable.
Let's come together to ensure that any new development is beneficial for all members of our community. I urge the local council and developers to consider alternative locations that might be better suited for this type of housing, or to make modifications to the proposal that address these concerns.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and working together to find a solution that respects the needs of all residents.
