Dear members of Council,
I oppose to this application. Why?
Has anyone thought about how near the 2019/2020 bushfires came to Congarinni North and Macksville? For many years, this council escaped this type of natural hazard, but of course, it couldn't stay that way. And it didn't! With the current climate change and continuously rising temperatures, it will happen again! And you want to subject seniors to this type of hazard and horror?
Has anyone thought of the flooding that has happened over recent years? This too, will happen many times again! And what happens if emergency services can't get to these seniors during flooding? What if seniors can't go out for health appointments or grocery shopping? Again, you want to subject seniors to this type of hazard and horror? This development is too close to the river!
Is anyone thinking about the impact of the destruction of so many trees and habitat for our endangered, much loved flora and fauna species? Is anyone thinking about this council's part in climate change and the continuous threat to decent livelihoods? Every council, with all it's decisions on development, pollution and protection of green areas, plays a part in the continuous rising of global temperatures. So does this council!
The more trees that get destroyed, the more CO2 that gets released, the less creation of oxygen, the less creation of rain, the less help in cooling down the planet, the more natural hazards and the severeness of them and the more becoming extinct of our unique flora and fauna species. The lesser protection of citizens and their livelihoods who vote for members, believing or questioning that they will do what their job description tells them to do, is something not to be ignored either!
Should I mention the increase of traffic congestion and other problems in the proposed area?
Our reputation as a country and state that protects it's citizens and unique flora and fauna species, because it's proud of them, already went down the drain many years ago, and for some reason, no one wants to restore it, no one thinks it's necessary! Where has pride gone to? Australia, the lucky country...it no longer exists! Not for common citizens, and that's definitely not something to feel proud of!!
When will council take responsibility for it's actions, for citizen's livelihoods and for our unique flora and fauna? This council still hasn't declared a Climate Emergency, also something not to be proud of!! It makes many of us voters wonder: what is council so afraid of?
