In regard to the proposed development at Lot 1, Reed Rd, Trinity Park, to allow the construction of a block of units. Reed Rd, Trinity Park has lost hundreds of trees in the last few years, because of housing estate developments near the beach, on Harbour Drive just off Reed Rd and currently opposite the proposed latest development near Smithfield Village Drive. The developers were quoted in the Cairns Post (5/10/2019) as saying that 'this project can go ahead without any adverse impacts on any environmental values', They are in effect saying that in this time of dire climatic changes taking place throughout Australia and the rest of the world that trees - which provide oxygen, improve air quality, limit carbon in the atmosphere, offer climate amelioration, reduce air pollution, provide food and shelter for wildlife (including wallabies and scrub fowl in this instance), minimise erosion, maintain healthy soil and increase rainfall - don't matter. Trees do matter, now more than ever, and every one destroyed is a loss for the planet. Please allow us to keep these trees and one of the very few remaining green spaces in this area.
